How to Create the Perfect Maternity Wardrobe

January 25th, 2010

The first rule in buying maternity clothing is you must go according to your pre-pregnancy size. Almost all maternity clothing is designed that way!

One of the biggest mistakes you can make purchasing maternity clothing is purchasing a size or two bigger then your normal size. Remember, when purchasing maternity tops to purchase tops that are of a stretchy material and that allow room to grow. When you purchase the correct size you will look better and feel more comfortable!

The second rule is to, if you plan on nursing or pumping is to purchase maternity tops that also double as a nursing top!  These tops are fully functional and come in many different colors and sizes and will help save you money in the long run.

The third rule is to purchase a belly band. I lived in mine throughout my entire nine months of pregnancy. There are several great maternity companies that make adorable and yet, functional belly bands! A belly band is makes it that you can wear your pre-pregnancy jeans a little longer or if your maternity jeans are a little loose it can help to keep them up. Belly bands come in lots of different colors.

Purchase supportive nursing bras, this can’t be stressed enough. Your breasts will most likely double in size and will feel heavier and they will need to be in a supportive nursing bra.

After your precious baby is born you will need to make sure you have comfortable clothing to wear home from the hospital. Lounge pants and a comfortable top are a must!

Remember, if you suspect you are pregnant to make an appointment with your health care professional who will be able to ensure you receive the care and support you will need during the next nine months.

Breast Lift Surgery Information and Post Operative Care

January 25th, 2010

Women who desire fuller, higher, and younger looking breasts may be candidates for a breast lift. A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, restores the shape and firmness to the breasts in women who have noticed sagginess from breast feeding, weight gain/loss, and aging.
In breast lift surgery, the breasts are raised by repositioning the nipple and the areolas (the pigmented area surrounding the nipple), often reducing the size of stretched-out, oversized areola in the process. If there has been loss of volume to the breasts, implants can be inserted at the same time to restore or enhance the size of the breasts.
Breast lifts can be performed using two different types of incisions. If the sagginess to the breasts is mild, an incision can be made strictly around the areola. If the sagginess to the breasts is moderate to severe, an incision must be made around the areola and also down the middle of the breasts beneath the areola and also underneath the breast fold.Your breasts are wrapped with an ACE wrap. Leave the wrap on for 72 hours. If the wrap is too tight, you can undo the ACE bandage and rewrap it more loosely. But, the ACE bandage should be snug and provide support for your new breasts. Also, the ACE bandage should cover the entire upper, middle, and lower breast. DO not wear it like a tube-top with cleavage showing up top. After 72 hours, you can take the ACE wrap off and shower. There is surgical tape over the incision line and these should stay on even in the shower. After the shower, you should wrap your breasts with the ACE bandage again. Absolutely no baths or swimming for 3 weeks. Showering is OK after 72 hours.
Take medications as directed. Do not take aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications (Motrin, Ibuprofen, Alleve) or Vitamin E supplements for 2 weeks after surgery.
No driving while under narcotic medications for pain.
Ask your plastic surgeon in your first follow-up visit regarding going back to work.
You should sleep on your back for 2 weeks following surgery.
Avoid alcohol or cigarette smoking for at least 3 weeks following surgery.
Call and make a follow-up appointment for 7 days following surgery.
Do not raise your arms over the level of your shoulder for 3 weeks. Do not pick up objects heavier than a phone book.
Bring a sports bra to your first follow-up visit. You will be able to wear a sports bra after your plastic surgeon examines you in the office. NO underwire bras for 3 weeks.
Do not apply a heating pad over your breasts. Portions of your breasts will be numb and you may get a burn from the heating pad. Cold packs in the first 48 hours following surgery is OK and may help to keep the swelling down. Apply cold packs over the ACE wrap, not directly over the breasts and nipples.
Scar therapy for your incisions will start at 2 weeks following surgery. Your plastic surgeon will instruct you regarding scar creams.
Keep your incision out of the sun. Sun exposure will make your scars red, raised, and persistently irritated for a long period of time. Make every effort to avoid the sun for up to 1 year following surgery. You can cover up the incision with sun screen (SPF 15 or above) or clothing.
You may return to normal activity and exercise at 3 weeks following surgery.
You may feel a funny, tingling sensations over your breasts a few weeks after surgery. It may affect one breast more than the other. This is normal recovery of some sensory nerves in your breasts.
If you are constipated, take over-the-counter laxatives. You do not want to strain over the toilet. This may lead to your blood pressure rising and cause bleeding.

Discover Maternity Clothes That Will Keep You Feeling Beautiful

January 25th, 2010

A mother-to-be should be the happiest woman on the earth, but sometimes the extra weight gain can put a damper on the way a pregnant woman feels. Choosing the right maternity clothing can go a long way toward alleviating the unattractive feeling a woman often experiences.

Whether you are petite or plus size you can discover some funky and trendy maternity outfits at cheap discount prices. Looking good is half the battle when it comes to feeling good. And looking good is just a matter of spending a little time finding the right maternity clothes for you. Appearing stylish is a goal that can be achieved through the entire pregnancy experience.

Some women believe they have to look thin to be beautiful. That is so far from the truth it is not even funny. There is a wide selection of cute maternity clothes in retail stores or online that can make you feel attractive again no matter what size you happen to be. There is absolutely no reason why any woman should have to squeeze uncomfortably into an outfit that is way too small in an attempt to look stunning. It’s not the size, but the style and fit that will improve your look.

The purpose of maternity clothing is to help you feel as comfortable as possible with your increasing weight and size. But that doesn’t mean you can’t find some trendy maternity clothes that you can feel good in. Finding some funky maternity clothes just takes a little bit of searching online or through retail stores. The cute maternity clothing you crave is out there, it just has to be found.

In addition to maternity pants, shirts, skirts and dresses there are other items of clothing that can increase a pregnant woman’s comfort. Finding the right underwear is very important too. If you want to look good you need to feel good. Nursing bras should have the ability to stretch, which is why cotton bras are the most popular during and after pregnancy.

If you are wanting to continue feeling sexy for your husband you may experience the need for some maternity thongs. They have become a very popular item of late. They can be found in very soft fabrics that will stretch comfortably below a woman’s belly. They can be made of stretchy cotton fabric for the ultimate in comfort and also come in an assortment of exciting colors and prints. Just because you are pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t wear similar clothes that you are already used to.

Other items of clothing that can still be worn during this period are jeans and T-shirts. Jeans and T-shirts are specially made for mothers-to-be. They have special stretchy areas that will conform to your shape while still looking trendy and attractive.

Skirts and dresses can also be worn regularly during pregnancy. Skirts are probably the most popular form of apparel during this time of your life. They can fit loosely for comfort while hiding some of the extra shape you are doing your best not to display. Dresses are also popular for the same reasons. This type of apparel gives you a little extra room for both growth and comfort.

The main thing to watch out for is not buying outfits that are too snug to begin with. It’s usually wise to purchase apparel that has a little “growing into” room. Buying things too tight means you will outgrow it quicker. If you have a large shopping budget you may be able to get away with buying things to fit. But if you are looking to save money by going with cheap discounts you should consider finding maternity clothes that will have a little extra room for growth. By shopping this way you will be able to save money by wearing those funky clothes for a longer period of time.

Now that you can see how important it is to find cute, trendy and funky maternity clothing for both your comfort and your appearance it’s time to start searching for them. Shopping online allows you do find cute petite or lovely plus size outfits in the convenience of your own home. Once you know what’s out there you can then visit the retail stores and start trying on the clothes that will help you to feel the most beautiful possible.

Breast Enhancement – Looking For Non Invasive Methods?

January 25th, 2010

Just as many men out there secretly wish for better male enhanced areas of their body, there are more women than may be even realized, secretly desiring for a better set of breasts. There are many reasons for so many women truly wishing for the fuller, and very often, even larger cup sized breasts.
One of the most common reasons is for being able to better fill out beautiful outfits, or just to not be so flat within the chest area, as to sometimes feel like a boy because there is so little there. There are also even more women that would cherish the plumper stand-up breasts that they used to have when younger or before they had their children.
As beautiful as pregnancies and motherhood is, each child a woman has, takes a toll upon the woman’s body. This is especially true of the woman’s breasts, whether the mother breast-feeds or not during the child’s infancy. The flatness left behind can devastate some women because they may feel that they no longer have the beautifully plump breasts that they once had.
Even though there are such a high number of women wanting nicer breasts, very few women would actually take a chance on risking any sort of breast augmentations. These are invasive surgical procedures that can do more harm than good in the end. Not to mention the fact of most all-cosmetic surgeries have an extensive recovery time and a high price tag of financial expenses.
When the long list of risks and costs are all said and done, very few women are truly going to go under the knife just to be happier with their breasts. This is especially true now with all of the side effects that may happen of a breast leaking inside the body, a shifting or hardness that may happen to cause permanent problems, and infections or scar tissue that often is painful or just permanently numbing to the breast.
There are many of these women that may also turn to filler types of bras so to better fit their clothing, but when the clothing and bras come off, the awful feeling of personal dissatisfaction comes flooding back. It used to be that there were really no other options, but to pretend with a fake bra, go with the invasive breast argumentation surgery, or as most women have long done, or just live with the breasts they got.
Thanks to the advanced world of all-natural breast enhancement products now available, the undesirable options above no longer are a woman’s only breast enhancement choices nowadays. More and more women are discovering the most amazing breast enhancement products of all-natural breast enhancement gums and the all-natural breast enhancement pills.
Within only a few weeks to a few months there these women are gaining up to one full size of a larger cup, and not to mention their breasts are noticeably fuller and rounder. With these types of delightful permanent breast enhancement results, why would a woman choose to get larger breasts any other way?

Maternity, Plus Size Clothing, Equals One Hot Mama

January 25th, 2010

If you are already a plus size woman, getting pregnant does not mean you have to abandon any chance of style. There are plus size maternity clothing out there made specifically for you. It is often simply a matter of letting your fingers do the walking over your keyboard. When you decide to shop, you will find out one simple fact. You can be just as bold or conservative in your pregnant state as you were before. It is up to you to decide whether you wish to maintain your style or adopt a new one.
As with the purchase of regular plus size clothing, you need to shop around for the best in quality, style and price. Maternity plus size clothes are available at specialty stores, regular stores and through various on and offline outlets. You have to approach them all with the same attitude you have for purchasing regular work or play clothes. You need to remember to consider certain factors. These include quality, amount, needs and wants.
There are certain things every pregnant woman needs. Beneath the maternity plus size clothing, you will have to have supporting undergarments. This may mean larger bras. These will need to be both supportive and comfortable. They can be sexy, but they need to fit you and fulfill your needs. Large bras can be lacy, but comfortable ones tend to be of cotton and breathe.
In fact, much of the daily maternity plus size clothing you may want to opt for will be of cotton. In summer, cotton is cooler. It also helps to prevent heat rash. The light colors of cotton also reduce the problems of heat-related issues.
You do not need to choose cotton. You also no longer have to hide your belly. The glory about maternity clothes in this day is choice. You can wear sloppy clothes consisting of track pants and baggy sweaters or tee shirts. You can decide to wear moo-moos. If you are self-conscious of your silhouette, you can think black or in monotones or vertical lines. These are the same tactics, you use for your everyday clothing. You simply adapt them to selecting your maternity plus size clothing.
Alternatively, you can show off your belly. Celebrate it with tighter fitting outfits and bare mid-rifts. Be confident and proud of both your body and your pregnant state. Be fashionable, be sexy and be appealing in your maternity plus size clothing. It is your choice.
If you decide to buy a new wardrobe, think quality over quantity. Buy according to what you need and what will last. Remember, you will go through different stages as you pass through each trimester. Is the clothing you choose adaptable to your changes? Can you really afford to purchase a new set of maternity plus size clothing every trimester? Be sure to think ahead and buy accordingly.
List your priorities for your outfits. You may need an office or work outfit, a lunch, shopping or visiting outfit. You may also want one dressier maternity gown or outfit and a seductive outfit. Some of the clothing, you will be able to mix and match.
Some outfits you can change with an accessory or two. Keep in mind your needs and build on them. If you are aware of your self and your style, you will be able to go confidently about your life in your maternity plus size clothes.

It is also important to read the product descriptions or call the store if you are ordering online to understand the difference as Nixilu is sometimes marketed under the Majamas Label and also some Majamas styles can double better for maternity than others.

Majamas is most popular for their incredibly comfortable and stylish nursing pajamas. Many women buy these pajamas during their pregnancy and are able to get quite a bit of use out of them before they have their baby. However, they are designed primarily for nursing and transition wear for after the baby. The Pajannaman and Majama MJ are the most popular for year round pajamas. Both of these nursing pajamas have nursing access in the top and bottoms that fit comfortably under the belly. The Pajannaman have cropped pants which make them slightly more popular in warmer weather while the MJ is a full length pajama pant which the colder weather moms seem to prefer. Both of these styles come in pewter, black, raspberry and a funky dogwood pattern. The raspberry is a new color out this year which has been particularly popular – it is a slightly richer color (more to the fuchsia) than the usual pastel pink we usually see in maternity stores that many women who are expecting girls are already sick of seeing!

The Sleepy Dress is a year round favorite because it really can be worn day or night. This dress was first intended to be a nursing nightie, but due to the thicker material, bust support, easy nursing access and cute style many women started sporting this style outside the house. It is a wonderful style for layering or dressing up with heels, as the occasion allows. The non-wrinkle, easy to wear stretchy material makes it a breeze to throw on, grab your baby and head out the door!

The Swan Dress is a new style by Majamas Nixilu line and designed exclusively for maternity. This solid black maternity dress is as elegant as the name it is given with a deep V neck and a shape hugging design. The soft modal/lycra stretches to hug and flatter your curves throughout your pregnancy.

The Softest Top and The Reverse Cami with Sleeves is a great year round no-nonsense top to wear to just about anything. As the name implies, The Softest Top is made from super soft poly/spandex and has easy nursing access and ¾ sleeves. The Reverse Cami is made slightly thicker with a blend of soft rayon/poly/spandex. They also double lined in the bra for added support and coverage which is designed to be worn with a nursing bra. The belly area is extra roomy for your postpartum belly.

The Majamas Lace Sleep Set is an excellent choice if you are looking for a sexy yet comfortable maternity and nursing sleep set. The Lace Sleep Set includes both a sexy sleeveless empire waist nightgown, with lace detail at the empire waist line. The matching robe has lace detail along the trim. This Sleep set is non-wrinkle, soft material of Cotton/Lycra. This beautiful set always makes an excellent gift for an expecting mom and comes in both solid black and pewter with black lace accents.

Breast Lift Surgery – Mastopexy

January 25th, 2010

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a procedure to lift and reshape sagging breasts. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, nearly 100,000 women underwent this procedure in 2005.
Any woman who has ptosis, or sagging of the breasts, is a candidate for breast lift. Conditions that contribute to the ptosis of the breasts include:
Aging: As women age, there is a gradual reduction in skin elasticity, as well as the stretching and elongation of the Coopers Ligaments, which are responsible for holding breast tissue up against the chest wall. The breast tissue itself also changes with age from mostly firm, fibrous milk glands to fatty tissue, which is soft and saggy. This change accelerates with menopause, and the gradual reduction of estrogen levels.
Pregnancy and Nursing: enlargement of the breasts during pregnancy, followed by their deflation after the end of breast feeding, also stretches the Coopers Ligaments, reducing fibrous tissue, breast volume and leading to ptosis.
Large Breasts and Implants: The tissue and skin of inherently large breasts, or those that have been augmented with implants, stretch out from the breast weight, resulting in sagging.
Weight Loss: Rapid weight loss or dramatic fluctuations in body weight also cause the skin’s elasticity and breast tissue to decrease.
There are a variety of “litmus” tests to determine if the degree of sagging in your breasts is advanced enough to warrant a procedure. Many lay persons define breast sagging by how far the breast tissue descends on the chest wall. Plastic surgeons, however, define breast sagging based on the position of the nipple in relation to the breast mount or Inframammary Fold.
Degrees of sagging, each defined specifically by plastic surgeons are: Mild Ptosis, where the nipple is at the level of the Inframammary Fold; Moderate Ptosis, where the nipples have dropped below the level of the breast crease, but are still higher than that of most of the breast mount; Advanced Ptosis, where the nipples have dropped below the level of the inframammary fold and are just at the level of the maximum breast projection; and Severe Ptosis, where the nipples have dropped below the level of the inframammary fold, and below the breast mount, so they are pointing to the floor.
Other “tests” for sagging include “The Pencil Test” that defines sagging breasts as those which hold a pencil in place under the breast under-fold. While many women consider some degree of sagging as normal and natural, The Bra Test determines that breasts which fall upon removal of the bra are Ptotic breasts.
Together, you and your plastic surgeon will determine which kind of Breast Lift procedure is best for you. During a Crescent Lift, the cosmetic surgeon removes a crescent-shaped piece of tissue above the areola and restores the tissue to a higher position. This creates a minor lift for patients who have Mild Ptosis. One risk of this technique is a slight egg-shaped areola for patients who have heavier breasts and do not wear good quality supportive bras following surgery.
During Concentric Mastopexy, also known as the Benelli Lift, the plastic surgeon makes circular incisions around the areola, and removes the doughnut-shaped skin between the two incisions. The plastic surgeon then moves the nipple and areola upward and stitches surrounding skin around the areola. The Benelli Lift works best in women with smaller breasts and minimal sagging. A variation of this is the Benelli-Lollipop, which has straight incisions from beneath the areola to the mammary fold, rather than the circular ones. This is considered appropriate for women with medium ptosis.
Anchor-Shaped Mastopexy is the most common, and also the most invasive, Breast Lift procedure. Your cosmetic surgeon will make an incision above your nipple, in the shape of an anchor, with a circle at the top. The nipple is placed in the circle at the top of the “anchor,” forming the shape of the new breast. The lines at the bottom form the lower contour of your breast. The plastic surgeon sutures the skin around the areola, vertically down to the chest, and side to side along the newly created bottom fold.
Sometimes, breast lift is combined with a breast augmentation (with an implant) procedure to restore breasts to a fuller and enhanced appearance. At other times, breast Lift is combined with breast reduction surgery, with the aim of lifting the breasts while reducing their size to a more proportionate one. One alternative to a breast Lift is a nipple lift alone. While this will not raise the breast itself to the fullest extent possible, it has the advantage of leaving a scar only around the upper half of the areola.
